    Phuket is Thailand’s largest island, and the approximate size of Singapore itself. It’s West coast which stretches across the Andaman Sea is a hub for all forms of water activities and an ideal diving destination for divers. A reputable dive boat in the area is the M/V Kingfisher which frequents the Similan Island waters. It is a motorized vessel equipped to provide not only the necessary facilities for diving but also a luxurious and comfortable travel means to dive sites. This form of diving adventure is also known as Liveaboard Diving, where tourists are not limited to a nearby diving location but can actually travel to remote sites via King Fisher.

    When it comes to diving with the Kingfisher, you can avail of various diving charters and different trips. Day trips and night trips are available and leave daily from port. Dive sites across the island region include the Similans, Phi Phi, Shark Point, Anemone Reed, King Cruiser Wreck, RachaYaiIsland and the RachaNoiisland.

    The King Fisher offers a variety of diving tours and programs, fit to satisfy the wants of various customers. These packages include the overnight dive trips, day trips and liveaboard diving to the Mergui Archipelago in Burma, Phi Phi, Richelieu Rock, HinDaeng, Surin Islands and the Similan Islands. A diving trip can take from 2 to 10 days depending on the location and on the tourists’ wants. Diving with the King Fisher is truly an adventure fit to suit anyone’s unique tastes.

    Diving Packages of the King Fisher are inclusive of daily meals with drinks of coffee and tea, drinking water, snacks, diving facilities such as the weights, tanks and weight belts with 4 dives per day depending on weather conditions and a qualified PADI Instructor and Divemaster to assist the tourist during their dive.

  • About the dive boat

    The King Fisher is made of a fiberglass and hardwood mono hull. It is 20×4.3 meters and was originally built in 1996. It can carry a maximum of 12 passengers, has 2 engines made of Hino Marine 6 cylinder 315hp and 2 generators of Isuzu 20 KW 3 Phase. It runs on 3800 Liters of fuel and 5000 Liters of water. Radar on board the King Fisher is the Raytheon 25nm range. The echo sounder on board is the Raytheon echo sounder with color depth and cruise plotter along with the JRC VHF fish finder and color spec sounder. The Lafayette 2400 FM is the available CB radio.

    The King Fisher is specifically designed for passengers to experience a relaxing cruise to their dive site. There is a beautiful lounge area on the upper deck which is partly shaded and with a fully equipped bar. The large dining table is at the stern and is a popular get together area during mealtime when passengers can still experience the beauty of the ocean while enjoying a fantastic meal. All cabins on board are air-conditioned for the passengers comfort.

  • Getting to King Fisher

    To get to Phuket, Thailand’s west coast, the main location of the King Fisher, you may take a flight from any of the internationally acclaimed airlines. On this route there are occasional stopovers in Bangkok .The peak season for this is between November to August and this is a very busy flight week for the tourists. With this it is advisable to make all the necessary arrangements and planning with the travel company, the airline and the hotel, be all made beforehand and verified before departure from location.

  • Climate

    Phuket, Thailand is 8 degrees north from the Equator and has warm tropical climate from November to April. During this time, cool winds and breezes abound the area. In the summer, the monsoon frequents the island. Diving in Phuket may be experienced all year round yet the most popular time to dive would be between November and April because of its sunny weather.

  • Currency

    The prices at most hotels, resorts and establishments are in Thai Baht. With this in mind it is important to have your currency changed to Thai Baht before going to port and taking off on the King Fisher or any liveaboard dive boat.

  • Electricity

    The electrical sockets in Thailand are 220 volts at 50 hz which means that they are compatible with most of the devices that are used in various countries. If you have appliances that are not compatible however, a voltage converter will be necessary. These are available at any nearby travel store or at the airports. Plug adapters are also readily available. With that in mind it is always advised to carry one around when you plan to go on a trip.

    Due to the immense advances in technology in today’s day and age, most Liveaboards offer a variety of telecommunications options via satellite, radio and internet connections depending on the strength of the signal and the availability of the service.

    What other amenities are available for King Fisher?

    The King Fisher offers various options that are not always inclusive in the diving package. These fees include the entrance fees of the Similan Islands Marine National Part which is at 200 Baht and plus 200 per diver per day. Beer and Sodas on board are available at extra charges. Airport pickups can be arranged by car or minibus. For night dives, torch rental is available and other extra diving equipment sale or rental is also available.

    Where will I find the necessary diving equipment?

    Luckily enough all the diving services and equipment are available for rent around the west coast and at the Liveaboard itself. Just feel free to inquire with your guide regarding the details.

    At a dive it is important to always have an alternate air source available (octopus). An inflatable surface marker buoy in important diving requirement as well, recommended for all dives.

    What about insurance in case of emergencies?

    The Kingfisher covers PA insurance and all general liabilities. On your trip you are guaranteed to be accompanied by professional staff that is certified to provide first aid treatments when it is needed. On board you will also be well equipped with all the necessary emergency and medical kits which are inclusive of oxygen kits, CB radios, VHF communications systems, cellular phones and others. There are decompression chambers available in the Gulf of Bangkok near Pattaya and Sattahip and in the Andaman Sea area.

    How can I make my reservations?

    There are various means available for you to make your reservations for the King Fisher. Available options include via email, fax or phone. Reservations need a 30% initial deposit which is payable within 10 days from the initial reservation date. It is important to pay the remaining 70% of your bill 45 days before you set off on your dive trip. With that in mind it is important to book your stay aboard the King Fisher at least 2 months before sailing off, and verifying everything a week before.
